Chairman's Message
This year the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek will run its tenth town fair and I have to say that the ten years has flown by, Oh how fast time goes when you are having fun.
The Rotary Club of Diamond Creek has had a great time planning and running the town fair for our community with all members of our club being involved.
Over the years we have tried many different things to freshen up the fair without making to many changes to take away the wonderful family atmosphere and activities that cater for the interests of all age groups.
The fair has been very successful in providing a venue for many of the community groups to raise awareness and funds for their particular endeavour. This is one of the great objectives of Rotary “Supporting our Community”.
We have had wonderful support from the whole community who have assisted with the fair, let me give you some examples.
- The Diamond Creek Scouts who each year put up activities like the rope climbing bridge for the young children to experience this activity and learn about scouting. While the children participate on the activities the parents can enjoy a BBQ sausage cooked by the scouts and their parents.
- Diamond Creek police who each year assist with the traffic control during the two parades and maintain the orderly conduct of the town when it swells in numbers. They have provided various displays over the years including highway pursuit vehicles, motor bikes, the police helicopter and last year the police pipe band.
- The Diamond Creek CFA who provide fire trucks and equipment for displays, organize and run the CFA touch light parade. They have on many occasions put on a variety of re-enactments of emergencies to entertain and educate the audience.
- The Occasion Child Minding Centre, the two Diamond Creek Primary Schools, Kinda’s, Sporting Cubs and many others, who dress up each year and participate in the parade with the children.
- We also receive wonderful support from our local businesses that participate with displays, providing services and sponsorship so we can run a variety of activities free to the community. The Bendigo Bank has done a wonderful job by supporting our fair by being our major corporate sponsor and has done so for five years now.
- The Nillumbik Shire has been another fantastic supporter of our fair by providing the grounds, sponsorship, manpower and services that make running an event of this size possible.
- We have great support from commercial stall holders who sell a wonderful range of foods, merchandise and rides.
We would like to thank all of those involved in the fair for your support, and the community who come along in great numbers to have a fantastic day. You all help to make the fair a very successful event and one the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek is very proud of.
This year we are running a very special event in the form of a unique raffle to raise money to help Rotary end polio world wide. We are very close to acheiving this great goal but we till need more money to finish the job. So we will be having 3 parachutists fall from the sky to pick the winners of the rafflte. So I encourage you to buy a ticket and have it on the oval. Tickets are $5.00 each. Please contact Rod Mackenzie 0418 333 984 or Jacqui Hodge 0433 708 556 if you want to buy tickets and also it you would like to help us sell tickets.
Yours in Rotary
Rod Mackenzie
Chairman Diamond Creek Rotary Town Fair.
